History of ARTC
The Association of Retired Teachers of
Connecticut started in 1946 through the efforts
of Ellen Hubbell, a teacher and principal from
Bristol. ARTC has been, and remains, the only
organization in Connecticut that is devoted
solely to protecting and improving the welfare
of the retired teachers of the state.
Membership in ARTC has grown to nearly 10,000,
with fourteen affiliated local groups, all
dedicated to be of service to others.
Primary concerns have been financial security,
health benefits, and fellowship. Political
alertness to the soundness of the pension fund,
attention to the advisability and availability
of health insurance coverage, and timely
newsletters, complemented by Fall and Spring
banquets, serve these goals.
ARTC has grown and thrived through the strength
and skills of the many devoted leaders and
members over the years.
